LKP London meeting for leaseholders November 10

October 29, 2018 //  by Sebastian O'Kelly

… and Manchester November 3

London Leaseholder Event

Your chance to meet the Law Commissioner Professor Nick Hopkins and provide your input on enfranchisement. Come and see Law Commissioner Professor Nick Hopkins speak about the Commission’s recent Consultation Paper, how the proposed reforms would affect leaseholders and how you can contribute to the debate.

The Leasehold Knowledge Partnership is holding a London meeting for leaseholders on November 10 at the Law Society.

This will be an opportunity to hear Law Commissioner Nick Hopkins outline the current state of his proposals to reform enfranchisement, lease extension and commonhold.

Other speakers will include officials from the Department of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

In addition, Martin Boyd and Sebastian O’Kelly, of LKP, will be speaking, as well as founders of the National Leasehold Campaign Facebook group: Katie Kendrick, Joanne Darbyshire and Cath Williams.

Also present will be lawyers representing leaseholders in professional negligence cases against developer recommended solicitors who landed their clients with doubling ground rents and unsellable homes.

All legal firms representing leaseholders in professional negligence actions are welcome to attend.

LKP estimates that there are around 100,000 new leasehold homes that are unsellable owing to onerous ground rent terms – ie above 0.1 per cent of the purchase price.

Of those, around 12,000 new homes, flats and houses, have doubling ground rents.

The issue is a national scandal, with no effort by government to scrutinise the tokenistic redress schemes dreamed up by companies such as Taylor Wimpey and Countryside Properties plc.

This schemes are being examined by the Communities Select Committee chaired by Clive Betts MP.

(Tickets are booked through Eventbrite, for which there is a charge of £27.54)
